Super Robot Wars Z. First Impression Review.

Super Robot Wars. Banpresto’s popular mecha stategy RPG is back. This time with a cast of new original characters and a bunch of new series being brought into the SRW series for the first time. This game has a totally new story, like most of the SRW games and also integrates the stories of the series appearing. This game, from what I can tell, is the last SRW game to be released on the PS2. So away we go.

As the title states. This is only my first impression review, because there’s no way in hell I’m able to finish an SRW game within the first few days of release. Not to mention I have never finished an SRW game due to the length, but I’ll try to give you as much information about the game and my thoughts on them as I can.

For those who are already familiar with the SRW games, you will find that not a lot has been changed, but quite a lot has been added. Here are some of the new things that I found.
-Bazaar system: This allows you to buy/sell items/parts that you obtain throughout the game.
-Formations: This is not so much as new as it is perfected. Not only can you set formations like before, but you can choose how the formation attacks. Depending on how you set up the formation, you will obtain different attacks or results from team spirits.
Other than those, the upgrading, equipping, pilot changing and everything is pretty much the same as it should be.

The combat animation is complete different from previous games. Everything looks more crisp from the original rough sprites. The combat animation was one of the focal points for my enjoyment. Even in some of the older games, the animation was always a nice touch.

The music in this is also quite good. Being that they are all karaoke versions redone by JAM Project, which is probably the greatest thing to come out of SRW games. JAM Project widely know due to the SRW games, by having a group do both original music and redone karaoke songs. The group itself consist of somewhere between 5-7 members if I remembered correctly. The main theme for this game is titled “Crest of Z’s”, which is epic.

As a small service. I’ll copy-paste the lyrics posted to this video.
